About me!

Who am I?

My name is Henry Holman and I am a game engine, gameplay and graphics programmer, and DePaul University alumnus. I love to play and program video games and share my passion for doing so with the world.

What are my goals?

I am currently working towards a career in game programming. I worked as a Conference Associate at GDC 2023, where I made new connections and learned a lot more about the industry. Ultimately, by working in game development I want share the joy gaming brings me with others, and hopefully provide people with new ideas that change how they see themselves and the world.

What do I know?

At DePaul I studied Computer Science with a concentration in Game Systems, which provided me with an intimate familiarity with C++ and its usage in game engine, graphics, and gameplay programming. In college, I learned about game engine architecture considerations and programming patterns required to build software that is both highly optimized and resilient to long-term changes. I am also proficient in Python, Java, and C#.

What have I made?

Right now, I am in charge of a small team currently developing Project Jump ’n’ Slash, an action-platforming indie game. Some of my other recent work includes the Relentless Game Engine, a DirectX 11 Graphics API, and a Centipede clone, all written in C++ for class projects, and during the COVID-19 lockdown I designed and programmed my own top-down shooter game in Lua. (See the “My work” page for more details on my projects.)

Fun fact: my first game I ever made was in PowerPoint 2007 when I was ten years old.
